Trust Management reports on climate

Anglican-owned Trust Management (TIML) has produced its first ever climate report and is excited to share that the TIML Property Fund has achieved Toitū net carbonzero certification for landlord-controlled greenhouse gas emissions for the second year in a row.

The Trust Management (TM) Property Fund has been certified "net carbonzero" for landlord-controlled greenhouse gas emissions for the second year in a row.

Trust Management is a licensed investment manager and property adviser that manages assets for Anglican Church trusts and other faith-based organisations. The company published its exciting Property Fund news within its first climate report, which details key risks, exposures, and opportunities related to climate change across its investment portfolios.

As part of Trust Management's decision to undertake a voluntary, limited scope climate reporting process, the company partnered with Toitū Envirocare to audit landlord-controlled emissions across its Property Fund.

The Property Fund invests in a broad range of commercial properties across New Zealand, which have now seen significant ongoing carbon-reductions. Improvements have come from energy-efficient technologies such as LED lighting, HVAC refrigerant system lower-emissions upgrades and Skylight replacements that improve natural lighting in commercial warehouses.

To date, the TM Property Fund has implemented LED lighting upgrades in 80% of its properties and replaced air conditioning and heat pump units to remove any of its own units that used the ozone-depleting R22 refrigerant gas.

In addition to obtaining the Toitū net carbonzero certification for the year up to 31 March 2024, the Property Fund achieved a greenhouse gas reduction of 4.3 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent when compared to the year up to 31 March 2023.

That’s the carbon saving equivalent of approximately 200 adult trees.

TM is keen to drive its work for sustainability beyond the Property Fund by actively supporting transition to a low-carbon economy, with ongoing measurement and analysis of GHG emissions and ESG screening across its portfolios.

The recently published 78-page Trust Management Climate Report provides transparent climate risk reporting and integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into Trust Management's investment processes.

The 2024 Climate Report details TM's approach to managing climate-related risks and opportunities across Trust Management's ESG Australasian Share Fund, ESG NZ Bond Fund, and their ESG International Share Fund.

Trust Investment Management Limited looks forward to building on these early successes and leading the way in sustainable investment practices.  For more information go to: www.trustmanagement.co.nz.
