Students hoping to enrol for a fulltime residential programme of theological and ministry formation at St John's have until 5pm on 7 October 2024 to register their interest in a new 2-3 year course. The just released programme takes learning out of the classroom and into the churches and their communities to where some of the most exciting and effective Anglican ministry is taking place.

Known as "Te Toi Amorangi" Hoani Tapu's advanced theological and ministry formation programme runs for up to three years. Each of the years has a specific focus, beginning with self and community, going on to global viewpoints and finishing up with practical experience in a part-funded curacy year.

Hoani Tapu - St John's College Manukura Rev Dr Hirini Kaa is excited about the fresh opportunities available to students joining the newly minted Te Toi Amorangi programme.

"Coming to Hoani Tapu as a residential student is a unique opportunity in our Church. There's a leadership model at the heart of this programme, called Te Oranga Ake. It's about flourishing of humanity and of creation. It's about the abundant life that Jesus promised us."

Dr Kaa went on to highlight the "amazing team and world leading support" at Hoani Tapu, including residential housing.

"There are no fees and your costs in terms of involvement with the programme will be met."

"It'll include things like haerenga (journeys, pilgrimages) around the motu and Aotearoa, it'll include engagement with marae, with communities, with churches.  There'll be master classes with some of the best thinkers, teachers, scholars, and practitioners that our Church has to offer.

Dr Kaa says that while students are with Te Toi Amorangi they'll be enrolled half time on an academic programme of theological study covering biblical studies, systematic and pastoral theology as well as church history and liturgical studies.

Students undertake a Diploma in Christian studies or a more advanced qualification alongside their learning in the advanced formation programme.

Dr Kaa says Te Toi Amorangi learning will be deeply Anglican in both content and character.

"You'll come out of it knowing your whakapapa as an Anglican, knowing our practices, our traditions, our understandings and how it can be applied today and into the future."

But at the heart of Hoani Tapu's new core programme is learning how to live an integrated Christian life through Anglican ministry and community leadership.

"It's living a life of aroha, rongo and hari. It's about living as Jesus commanded us. It's about discipleship with ourselves and with others." said Manukura Dr Kaa today.

Students interested in Te Toi Amorangi can work with their Bishop or Ministry Educator to enrol.
