Youth will take centre stage when leaders of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia meet in Fiji next month.

Diocesan youth co-ordinator Sepiuta Halaapiapi said more than 300 youths from Fiji, Tonga, Samoa and American Samoa, who make up the Diocese of Polynesia, would take care of the cultural welcome at the 60th General Synod.

Drawn together under the theme In Christ We Move Together, more than 150 delegates will attend the synod in Nadi from July 7.

Ms Halaapiapi said the last synod, held in Gisborne in May 2010, decided that the focus for the next event would be young people.

"That's why Archbishop Winston Halapua and the diocese have tasked the youths with the welcome," she said.

Ms Halaapiapi said that on Saturday youths presented a sevu or first performance of cultural items to Archbishop Halapua in Suva.

"Once we have done that then we can now focus on practising our items," she said.

Also youths will take charge of the Sunday service on July 8, from performance to preaching - "we are doing everything."

trust the local media for misquotes and errors in her 5 minute interview then reporting! Hopefully in future the local media pick convenient times to do on-the-spot interviews!!
