In the face of the ISIS-Japanese hostage crisis, the Archbishops have asked Bishop John Gray – who is in Japan on Anglican Indigenous Network business – to convey their love and prayers to the Japanese church.

Their statement follows:

"As the Secretary of the Anglican Indigenous Network, Bishop John Gray is in Japan, where he is meeting with the Primate of Japan, the Most Rev Nathaniel Makoto Uematsu, and various officials and members of government.

"In the light of the capture by ISIS of two Japanese citizens, and the confirmed execution of one of those Japanese citizens, we’ve asked Bishop John to convey not only our greetings to the Primate, but our love, our prayers and our solidarity with the people of Nippon Sei Ko Kai, the Anglican Church of Japan, and to the people of Japan generally."
