Christchurch vicar named as Dean

The vicar of St Martins Opawa will be the next Dean of Christchurch.

Canon Lawrence Kimberley has been named as the next Dean of Christchurch.

Canon Kimberley, 53, is vicar of St Martins Opawa in Christchurch. He has been a clerical canon since last year.

Bishop Victoria Matthews announced his appointment as Dean at the opening of the Christchurch Diocesan Synod in the Transitional Cathedral tonight.

Canon Kimberley was Archdeacon of Pegasus from 2006-14, and is chair of the Anglican Clergy Pension Board.

The Rev Nick Montfort has been Acting Dean since the sudden death of Dean Lynda Patterson in July last year.
