Over 1000 entries were received for Bible Society’s third Mission Adventure competition to send two people on a life-changing mission to help deliver Bibles in Cambodia and Vietnam.
Jasmine Thornton, 18, and Adam Tamariki, 27, both from Auckland, will join staff from Bible Society in Cambodia and the Vietnam Partnership to help with projects that Bible Society New Zealand supports in Cambodia and Vietnam, including literacy, translation and distribution projects.
The two leave New Zealand on April 20 for their two-week Mission Adventure.
“We had an extremely high calibre of entrants again this year, and it’s a real thrill to know that so many of our young Christians are so fired up for mission work,” says Silke Hendel, Bible Society’s marketing manager.
“Once again it was a really tough decision as so many of the entrants would be well suited for this trip.
“Adam and Jasmine both have a real heart for sharing God’s message and are passionate about helping make a difference in peoples’ lives which is evident in what they’re already involved in within their own communities.
“They’re super excited to have this opportunity to see lives impacted by God.
“It’ll be a challenging experience in an environment where owning a Bible is still out of reach for many people, but we’re confident Adam and Jasmine are up for the challenge.”
Bible Society’s aim is to raise awareness of Bible mission and the urgent need for Bibles in South-east Asia.
Jasmine and Adam will share their experience with nearly 17,000 people on the ‘Change Lives Today’ facebook page. Regular news and updates will be posted leading up to and during the trip, including photos and videos.
They will also share regular video diaries about their experience and impressions. Bible Society hopes this trip will encourage other people to get excited about Bible work in these countries.

“We’re also encouraging people to take the ‘Change Lives Today’ challenges, says Silke.
“We’re posting regular mini Bible devotions on our ‘Change Lives Today’ facebook page.
“This page is aimed at encouraging people to put the Bible into action.
“It’s hoped the page will spur young Christians all over the country to help change lives around them and also to share their experiences as an encouragement to others.”
