Royal New Zealand sailors filled St Paul’s Cathedral in Wellington for their annual service on Sunday afternoon, October 2.
On Saturday 500 sailors marched through the streets of Wellington as part of the navy’s 70th anniversary celebrations.
Mayor Celia Wade-Brown welcomed the sailors at Civic Square following a ceremony at Parliament to change the Queen's Colour, a flag that symbolises the navy's relationship with the Queen.
The flag was then laid up in the cathedral, to be collected on Monday morning.
Thousands of Wellingtonians turned out to watch Saturday’s parade, and were allowed on board navy ships berthed around the capital's harbour.
The parade happens every 20 years.
