Diocese to stay with two bishops

The Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki votes unanimously to retain dual-episcopacy.

Taonga news  |  16 Mar 2013

The Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki has voted unanimously to continue with the dual-episcopacy model that has been in place since 2007.

A diocesan statute required the diocese to hold a special synod to confirm or repeal the model, following the resignation of Archbishop David Moxon as Bishop of Waikato.

Archbishop David is heading to Rome to become the Anglican Communion’s chief representative to the Roman Catholic Church. Which means the diocese will now call for an electoral college to nominate a new Bishop of Waikato.

Bishop Philip Richardson remains as the Bishop of Taranaki.

Today's special synod was held at St Bride’s Church, Otorohanga.
