A Communion-wide Young Anglican Theology group are calling for Anglicans under forty to contribute their creative theological reflections on ecology and climate change as part of a project to highlight young Anglicans' perspectives.
Working in partnership with the Anglican Communion Youth Network (ACYN), Young Anglican Theology is led by Anglicans aged 18-40 from across the Anglican Communion who are aiming to connect, encourage, and empower young Anglicans with a passion for theology.
Project Coordinator of the Young Anglican Theology Project, Rev Thomas Sharp says the project aims to provide a platform for anyone with a passion for engaging with theology in creative ways, and emphasises that contributors do not need formal theological training.
“We want to connect and encourage young people from around the Anglican Communion to speak with a powerful theological voice, and to contribute to raising up the next generation of Anglican theologians."
"Whatever sort of Anglican you are, and whatever way you express your theology, your voice matters.” he said.
• Anglicans under 40 are invited to share submissions on a range of topics including:
• Ecclesiology and climate change
• The effects of Climate Change on the Church
• The Fifth Mark of Mission (to safeguard Creation and renew the life of the earth) Treasure the Earth) and
• Liturgy and Creation
The group is calling for reflections in the aftermath of the recent COP16 (on biodiversity) and COP29 (on climate change). To date, none of the contributors featured on the Young Anglican Theology website are from Oceania.
Contributions accepted by the group's publishing team will be published on the Young Anglican Theology website along with a short video interview introducing the young people behind the theology, which will include contributors' reflections and on their hopes for the future of Anglican theology.
Contributors will receive editorial support from the YAT publishing team to develop their piece for publication.
Global Co-Convener and Africa Regional Co-Chair of the Anglican Communion Youth Network Reginald Pepsival Robertson emphasised the value of hearing from young people who are living in areas where Climate Change has a critical impact.
“Many young Anglicans around the world are living in contexts directly impacted by the challenges of Climate Crisis and Identity. It’s vital that the Church hears and listens to the voices of young people across the Communion on matters of ecology and the climate and learn from their rich experiences.”
Young Anglicans worldwide are encouraged to submit their work by 31 January 2025.
Contributions can be made through the project website at or by email at younganglicantheology@gmail.com
Examples of previous contributions can be viewed on the Young Anglican Theology website here.
