Helping youth get into the Bible

The Bible Society New Zealand has released a new youth guide designed to open up the Bible to newcomers.

This Easter the Bible Society New Zealand(BSNZ) will give away 10,000 copies of a new resource that helps young people navigate their way through the Bible.

It’s called The Field Guide to the Bible and they’re going out to Easter camps throughout the country this Easter, including at the Diocese of Auckland's Easter camp.

Jeremy Woods, Youth and Young Adult Specialist at BSNZ says it’s a unique product as so many Bible commentaries and study guides are aimed at adult audiences and are quite complex.

"For many young Christians and people new to the Bible, not knowing where to start reading is a key barrier to the Bible playing an important role in their faith." he says.

This along with confusion about how the Bible fits together as a whole, and how it connects with real life, was the impetus behind BSNZ developing The Field Guide to the Bible.

The guide includes lots of Bible reading ideas and tips as well as a timeline and narrative of key Bible events and practical introductions to each book.

Thanks to the generosity of its supporters BSNZ is giving away copies of The Field Guide to the Bible at three of this year's biggest Easter youth camps - Baptist Central (Fielding), Baptist Northern (Mystery Creek, Hamilton) and Canterbury Youth Services Southern(Christchurch).

It will also be given to youth at Presbyterian Easter camps, the Central Division Salvation Army Easter camp at Silverstream and a New Life Church camp.

To purchase your copy of The Field Guide to the Bible for $9.99, Call Bible Society New Zealand on 0800 424 253 or go to www.biblesociety.org.nz
