Telling the stories of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, NZ and Polynesia

Archbishops' arohanui to Australia

In the wake of the tragedy and trauma of Martin Place in Sydney, our Archbishops have sent a message of support to the Primate of the Australian Anglican Church.

Taonga News  |  17 Dec 2014

In the aftermath of the Sydney siege, the Archbishops of this Church have sent a message of support and assurance of prayer to their Australian counterpart, Archbishop Philip Freier.

And our Archbishops have encouraged Anglicans here to continue to hold those affected – particularly the families of those who lost loved ones – in prayer.

Their message, which was sent last evening, reads as follows:

Dear Archbishop Philip,

We have been watching with deep distress and anxiety as events have unfolded in Sydney.

We send our love and assure you of the prayers of the Anglican community throughout this Province. Our condolences and our sympathy goes out particularly to those who have lost loved ones in this attack.

We have been greatly inspired by the decency, solidarity and concern expressed towards members of the Muslim community by Australians wanting to ensure that innocent people would not be be the targets of any backlash.

Arohanui,

On behalf of the Anglican community in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia.
