A prayer quilt that has travelled throughout Wellington Diocese has been presented to the the Christchurch City Missioner, Michael Gorman, one year on from the first big Canterbury quake.
Up to 85 people gathered at St Barnabas, Khandallah, for the "North to South" presentation on Sunday, September 4.
Jane Dagger, of St Michael and All Angels in Newlands, handed over the quilt, which has since been delivered to Bishop Victoria Matthews at the Anglican Centre in Christchurch.
Expressing thanks, Mr Gorman encouraged the gathering to keep praying for the people of Canterbury. “Don’t forget us,” he urged.
The "North for South" initiative also raised over $2000 for the Christchurch City Mission, plus $220 for the Christchurch Women’s Refuge.
A letter with the quilt explains: "We thought that a quilt for Christchurch would be one visible way to show that you are very much in our prayers.
"But we wanted it to be bigger than just our parish, so this quilt has covered the length and breadth of the Wellington Diocese, becoming a focus of prayer for each of our six regional pre-synod meetings in recent weeks.
"Each of the 180 knots on the quilt represents a prayer said for your people by the parish representatives of our people.
"The quilt is now yours, and despite the knots it comes with 'no strings attached' – you may determine where it ends up.
"Know that our prayer and concern for you all continue."
