Mr John Morrison, a long-serving former Chancellor of the Diocese of Wellington, has died after falling seriously ill last week.

On hearing this today, all 160 members of synod rose as Archbishop David Moxon led them in a prayer of thanksgiving for Mr Morrison’s life and his “passionate care for Anglican Christianity."

At the time of his death, Mr Morrison was a serving member of the Diocese of Wellington’s Board of Trustees and Canon Emeritus of the Cathedral of St Paul’s.

A synod representative for Wellington, Mr Anthony Hill, is Mr Morrison’s successor as Diocesan Chancellor.

“John was a wholly remarkable man," he told Taonga this morning. “He personified integrity, courage, wisdom and mercy. John loved people, and loved God and his church".

May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
