The General Synod Standing Committee has appointed Brendan O’Donovan to The New Zealand Anglican Church Pension Board as its new Licensed Independent Trustee.

“We’re delighted to welcome someone of Brendan’s calibre to our Board” said Board Chair, Dean Lawrence Kimberley this week.
Brendan's is a name that Kiwis will be familiar with, having had a high profile in the past as Chief Economist for Westpac Bank and, before that, the National Bank of New Zealand.

He is currently a Specialist Advisor to Parliament’s Finance & Expenditure Committee on matters of monetary policy and financial stability.
“Brendan’s in-depth knowledge of financial products, markets and risk management will add great value to Committee discussions” said Ian Millard QC, Chair of the Board’s Investment Committee.

Brendan also brings governance experience in organisations with similar aims to the Pension Board's, having served as a Trustee of the Medical Assurance Society’s Retirement Savings Plan and as a director of The Co-operative Bank.

“We will benefit from Brendan’s experience overseeing organisations that are on a growth track.” said General Manager Mark Wilcox.
“The Pension Board has extended its core service of superannuation and investment administration services to the wider Church in recent times, and will continue to do so into the future”.

Brendan is excited about the prospect of working for an organisation with a clear and simple purpose.

“I really like what the organisation represents - a not-for-profit financial services provider that is growth-oriented, with an ethical approach and strongly aligned values,” he says.
"I'm looking forward to helping the organisation achieve its objectives, which always have its members’ best interests at heart.”

Brendan succeeds the current Licensed Independent Trustee, Helen McKenzie, who resigns effective 31 March 2017.
